Heartland Music Together is proud to offer the Music Together curriculum in Louisville. Since 1987, Music Together has been an internationally recognized early childhood music program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners and the adults who love them. It is a pioneer of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly encourages, emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement.
Music Together recognizes that all children are musical—able to learn to sing in tune, keep a beat and participate with confidence in the music of our culture, provided that their early environment supports such learning. By emphasizing informal musical experiences over formal musical concepts, Music Together introduces children to the pleasures of actively making music instead of passively receiving it from CDs, TV or online media.
The program brings families together by providing a rich musical environment in the classroom and by facilitating family participation in spontaneous musical activity at home within the context of daily life. A central tenet of the Music Together approach is that young children learn best from the powerful role model of parents, caregivers and early childhood professionals who actively demonstrate by making music—no matter what their level of musical expertise.
All our teachers have successfully completed the Music Together training program, which is based on the ever-evolving body of early childhood music development research. All instructors are required to complete an intensive three-day workshop and pass a live audition demonstrating their musical and leadership abilities, followed by a semester-long teaching apprenticeship. Our teachers continue to develop their skills through workshops, continuing education, and advanced certification in the Music Together curriculum.
